South Zeal Victory Hall

Locating South Zeal Victory Hall

The hall is right in the middle of the village in the main street approximately half way between the Oxenham Arms and the King’s Arms and just up the hill from St Mary’s Chapel.

We try to keep our hire costs down and manage our sustainability by fundraising for the hall, the main event being our well known annual Open Gardens Day held on the third Sunday of June each year. As well as a variety of private gardens opened by local residents,  there are refreshments in the hall including Ploughman’s lunches and a plant sale directly opposite. One of our other village facilities, South Zeal Recreation Ground also raise money on the same day selling delicious afternoon teas.

Garden openers are always wanted.

About Us

Meeting bi-monthly with the Annual General Meeting held every November, the hall is managed by a Committee made up of Management Trustees; comprising the main user groups as well as representatives of South Tawton Parish Council plus elected and co-opted members.

Through South Tawton Parish Council we are members of the  Community Council of Devon. Our premises are licensed by

West Devon Borough Council and we hold the required PRS/PPL licence for the use of music.

Since 2012, the Management Committee has had maintained a Health and Safety Policy for the hall, which is reviewed  annually. A copy is available to read on the hall’s notice board.

We very much welcome interest about joining the Management Committee as well as user feedback.
